With healthcare staff working long hours, it is sometimes difficult to go to the grocery store to stock up on pantry items and grocery essentials for home. Now, just before healthcare workers leave for the day, they can stop into Market Place Cafe to pick up milk, bread, eggs, ready-to-eat meals, pasta, sauce, rice, fresh-sliced cold cuts, cereal, paper towels and other dry and perishable grocery items.
“After a long day at work, it can be exhausting and stressful to have to go to the grocery store, which is why we opened a mini-market area within Market Place Cafe. We did this as something to increase morale and make it easier, so they don’t have to worry about one more thing when trying to get the basics for their families,” stated Michael West, Faculty Student Association’s Director of Food Service at Stony Brook Hospital.
Market Place Cafe is located on level 5 of the hospital lobby, featuring a variety of freshly prepared entrées, desserts, coffee and beverages, all available for takeout.
